Kobujodokai is an organization founded by students of Shindo Muso ryu Jo from the Kobukan Dojo, and their pupils, and pupils of pupils, all of them tied by the thread of the master/disciple (shihan/deshi) relationship. The core of Kobujodokai are the
groups and disciples who practice Shindo Muso ryu Jojutsu, handed down from master to pupil, from generation to generation.
Kobujodokai also includes groups and students who practice the Jodo Seitei kata of the the Zen Nihon Kendo Remmei (Federation), which is the first step in learning
Jojutsu.
Shindo Muso ryu Jojutsu handed down through the succession of Masters helps to realize yourself, and after you have perfected in yourself this martial art, spiritually rich and vital, it must be passed down to the younger generations in the same way as it has been taught by the Masters.
To continue this tradition, we must learn Shindo Muso ryu Jojutsu in the correct way, master the ancient katas without change, practice and realize in ourselves their true meaning, and pass them down without any modification. And again, from generation to generation, the katas shall be passed down without modification.
The teacher shall faithfully instruct his pupils, and at the same time, shall not forget that he is a pupil of his master, and therefore needs the continued guidance of his own master.
We must remain faithful to this ideal, without being carried away by fashion, and without being fascinated by the word "popularity". One must educate ten steady men, and these ten men must educate another ten steady men, and so on. Only in this way can we faithfully spread the true teaching of Shindo Muso ryu Jojutsu. Thus, we must require that all disciples involved in Kobujodokai and their pupils become both sincere and true practioners and good teachers, and the aim of Kobujodokai is the perpetuation of this tradition.
Master Shigehiro Matsumura is the head of the Kobukan Dojo. In April 1958 he entered the school of Master Takaji Shimizu to study Jodo. After the death of Master Shimizu in 1978, Master Matsumura entered the school of Master Ichizo Otofuji, from Fukuoka, and continued to practice. However Master Otofuju passed away at the age of 100 in February 1998.
Master Matsumura has received the Gomokuroku license to teach Shindo Muso ryu Jojutsu from Master Shimizu, and then the Menkyo Kaiden license from Master Otofuji. Moreover, he has received Menkyo license to teach Suio ryu Joho, Naginata-jutsu and Kyoha ryu Bojutsu from the late Master Mitsuyasu Katsuse from Shizuoka.
